Stripped Bare by J-Pop Princess
genre: romance, drama
Kakashi x Sakura. When Sakura wanted a change of pace, she hadn’t expected THIS! Now she’s on a mission with Kakashi, masquerading as a dancer at a club far away from home and she finds herself forced to explore her own powers of sexuality and seduction. (*summary taken from author)
First of all, the utter sensuality of this will blow you away. To watch Sakura come into her own is empowering as a woman and it’s fascinating to watch Kakashi rationalize his way through unfamiliar emotions in this thrilling story.
Winter Release by StarsOfYaoi
genre: romance, angst
warnings: lemon, yaoi
Itachi x Naruto. Naruto gets captured by the Akatsuki and begins falling for the older Uchiha.
This is one of the best fics I’ve read for this pairing. The outlook the author has created for Itachi is rather fascinating, and the mind behind all the madness is slowly revealed through numerous flashbacks, his odd thought processes, and his actions. Similarly, we also get to witness Naruto’s descent into darkness.
However, the best thing about this story is that the author tries to be realistic, and concedes that nothing remotely romantic will be possible until much later. This leads the pacing to be rather slow, but also lends a greater sense of realism and gravity as a result. Their lust-bound relationship eases the way for numerous possibilities in the future, and I am hanging off the edge of my seat as I await the next chapter.
Duty Before Honor by SilverShine
warning: lime, eventual lemon
Kakashi x Sakura. Sakura knew why Tsunade didn’t want a virgin on this mission. Things might get out of hand. Acts might be carried out too far. She was glad Kakashi was accompanying her, but right then she wouldn’t have minded the entire population of Konoha. (note: summary taken from author’s profile)
This was a thoroughly engaging story, from the romance, to the humor, to the great action scenes. I had the sense that everything was very well thought out and tied in very nicely. Lovely pacing, fascinating plot and characterization; there’s a real sense of excitement and adrenaline during action scenes, and the author really helps you gain insight into the characters, allowing you to sympathize and really feel for them. I also think, that despite the common idea of kunoichi using their bodies as tools in missions, such things are rarely touched upon in both the naruto series and it’s fanfiction(or at least not this realistically and well written), so it was interesting to see the author travel down this avenue. I absolutely loved this fic.
Fourteen Dates by sakura haru
Kakashi x Sakura. A world weary Sakura has awoken Kakashi from a Sharingan induced coma, and to feelings that he’s repressed for years. The copy ninja decides it’s finally time for her to learn how he feels. (note: summary taken from author’s profile).
What I found unique about this story was the detail with respect to the medical aspects of the story, which brings in a sense of reality that I find both engaging and appealing to my intellectual side. It is very nicely paced, and delves deeply into the psyches of the two main characters as the relationship between the two begins to unfold. My only complaint is that it does get a little tedious and monotonous at times, but overall it was a great read that had me hooked for hours.
Just the Girl by Hotspur
warnings: char death
Zuko & Toph (future Zuko x Toph?). Toph separates from the gaang after a spat and ends up attaching herself to one disgruntled banished prince and his uncle; with Toph’s help, Zuko finally begins reaching his full potential.
The adventure spawned from this split is fascinating, to say the least, and Hotspur manages to deliver on-spot characterizations on top of well-written prose and engaging plot. I fell in love with this explosive pairing right from the start, and this is perhaps the best multi-chap fic I’ve found for it, so far.
Face Value by Firefly
Kakuzu x Temari. The two cross paths on different missions involving the same target and things really start to heat up as they continue running into one another and slowly get to know one another.
This is a lovely example of crack done right, and when I say “done right”, I mean making it work. I really love how detailed and insightful the author is when it comes to the characterizations, something that is wonderful to see in all fics but is necessary with lesser known characters and/or unusual pairings, I think. Like all fics with well-written crack pairings, this lovely fic has made me a fan.
Hotel Osaka by Jaelle
warnings: reference to adult situations
The entire Seigaku team stays at a hotel and Ryoma is decidedly not too pleased with his room, and isn’t afraid to let his sempai know it.
The Games We Play by Jaelle
Fuji plays the Sims. Hilarity ensues.
Ryoma-sempai by Jaelle
genre: drama, one-shot
This fic takes a look at Kaidou’s younger brother, and how he feels when he enters middle school and joins the Seigaku Tennis club. Someone’s got a beef with the tennis prodigy…
I love this author and how they manage to capture the characters so well. Also, I think I have personally always wondered how Ryoma would grow up and mature… or not. This gives us a little bit of insight into the year after the dream team.
Quotidian by Firefly
genre: drama, suspense
warnings: dark, violence
Temari, Hidan. Dark and disturbed in a way you normally don’t see in this fandom, this fic is a psychological thriller that binds the two characters together in a horrific yet fascinating string of meetings and occurrences. Obsession is born from hatred as Temari is consumed by it, things start to spiral out of control.
It’s interesting to see how they affect one another and there are some dark, twisted undertones of romance. Enough squick for the whole family.
